Ogres and gremlins
roamed inside her head
though they gave her
a sense of dread

they filled her ordinary life
with excitement and
peculiar pleasures

perhaps it was because
way back in her lineage
an obscure aunt or
grandmother
was married to one.

Cosmic visitors
mysterious
extraterrestrials
origin Pleiades
star cluster
6 to 7 feet tall
long blonde hair
blue eyes
physically beautiful
fluidity of movement
resembling Scandinavians
superior intellects
psychic powers
telepathic
ethereal
peaceful
benevolent
space brothers
and sisters
alleged to be real.

The vale of tears
vallis lacrimarum
rooted in Christian doctrine
the suffering, the sorrows
the hardships, the struggles
the chronic diseases
the inevitable dying
loved ones crying
in this transitory life
beneath the high times
the ecstasies, the joys
tears constantly falling.

Elon Musk wants to put people on mars
a self-sustaining population
for “the long term survival of civilization”
I believe this would be a necessary step
a beginning of space colonization
the safety of the human species
maybe some animals too
face it, the sun won’t last forever
though too far away to worry about now
the sun eventually will burn out
a devastating cataclysmic event
based on this and other cosmic threats
or a nuclear holocaust on earth
I believe space colonization is inevitable.

Walking stick aliens
insectoid beings
superior intellects
resembling
praying mantises
been described
as “nasty looking”
can shape shift
into blonde humans
said to be hostile
from the planet
Epsilon Eridani
factual or
fictional
I do not know
many believe
they are real
like an aerospace
unnamed source
and Linda Moulton Howe
a phenomenal
journalist
this I know
with certainty
the deeper you
look into these
extraterrestrial
matters
the curiouser
the information
becomes
and maybe as
the saying goes
the truth is
stranger than fiction.

Since I began writing poetry
about two years ago
I hear words with the ears of a poet
words I didn’t really hear before

for example

when I read the word dromadaire today
I like the way it sounded
so I decided to write a poem with that word in it

inside the body of a dromadaire
a rare nanobody dwells
according to a recent study
that rare nanobody
might treat brain disorders
Alzheimer’s and others
who would have thought
a dromadaire roaming the desert sands
could have such a priceless treasure within him.

On an Art Bell’s Ghost to Ghost
broadcast, part of his old
Coast to Coast radio shows
now on YouTube

a woman wrote in about how
in her wild and crazy younger days
she was driving out of control
had been drinking alcohol

ran over old woman with her car
who appeared from behind a bus

she sprang out of her car
rushed over to the woman
said she was sorry
draped her jacket around
her, and the woman looked
into her eyes as she died

she was charged with manslaughter
sent to jail for years
she never got over
accidentally killing the old woman

many years later, living alone
she was about to kill herself
the guilt still too much too bare
as she thought about killing herself
she felt a presence behind her
that began holding her

she knew it was the gentle spirit
of the old woman
saw a flash of her face
and she felt no fear
the old woman’s spirit comforted her
with forgiveness that purged all the guilt
and sorrow out of the forlorn woman

Sometimes in this
world of suffering and sorrow
miracles like this happen
miraculous, tender mercies.

Been listening to old Art Bell
Coast to Coast shows
on YouTube lately
the Ghost to Ghost ones

on those shows
I often hear Art Bell say
red eyes worry him

makes me wonder
if Art ever saw an entity
with malevolent red eyes
and freaked out
I know I’d be freaked out
if ever I saw a red-eyed entity

Art often had concerns that
maybe ghosts that appeared
in houses and other locations
said it’s sobering to consider

were trapped on the earth plane
forever

instead of moving on to
somewhere else in the afterlife

these ghosts he’s referring to
are not the residuals
imprints of a person who
died from a suicide, a murder
or a tragic accident
like a movie scene
playing over and over
the deceased not there
gone somewhere else

Art means the interactive
ghosts

a chilling in the air, sounds,
voices, touches, visions,
objects missing or moving
a ghost that seems trapped
in a particular location

it does make one wonder
why these entities appear
stuck in those locations
instead of moving on

are they too attached to
the earth plane or for
inexplicable reasons afraid
to move on?

Are they at those locations
occasionally but residing elsewhere
in the great beyond
most of the time?

I can understand why Art sees
their earthbound situations
as terrible plights

and ghosts seemingly
trapped in haunted locations
are one of the many
mysteries in this world
I cannot figure out

but right or wrong
I believe when I die
all those mysteries
will be revealed to me

and I just realized I was
writing about Art Bell
mostly in the present tense,
as if he were still living
instead of passed on

in spite of that, I feel
absolutely certain
that though Art Bell has
left this world
he is somewhere wonderful
and not a trapped ghost.

I had a metamorphosis
from a night owl
to an early bird

I can’t explain entirely why
but from staying up till 2 or 3 am
I began waking up at 4 or 5 am

eventually I used those early hours
to write my poetry
before returning to sleep

this practice became habitual
until the day came

when I began enjoying being like
a born again early bird

now I go to bed around 10 pm
and wake up at 4 or 5 am

I do a little spiritual work
a few minutes of pranayama
some prayers to Christ
then sitting in surrender
for 5 to 15 minutes
with k energy this is
all I need, like meditating
for an hour pre-k arising

I write 3 poems after that
sometimes one or more
then or later in the day

then I ride my deck cycle
at my computer for 2 hours

on other days, 3 times a week,
I work out then ride the deck cycle
for the 2 hours

I’ve been a night owl for all my life
so the unexpected change to
an early bird surprises me

but I like the quiet of the early
morning hours

and a week ago I went to a grocery store
when it opened at 6 am

I enjoyed the ease of getting in
and out minus the teeming crowds
the waiting lines later in a day

so I suspect I’ll continue
flying through my days
as an early bird
instead of a night owl.

Through I was always out practically
every night in my wild youth
somewhere in my late twenties
I became more of a homebody
when married

I was fine with going out once or
more a week, like to a restaurant
or a movie

or on a weekend jaunt
shopping or sightseeing

but being out nearly every night
no longer appealed to me

I made the unforeseeable mistake
of being with two women
who became social butterflies
sometime after we married

I learned like a title of an
old country song
“Isn’t It Lonely Together,”
that that song was heartbreakingly true

the better of the two social butterflies
left this world years ago
in her fifties

saw her obit on the Internet
I suspect she died
of a lung or breast cancer
she was a smoker

she was the nicest woman
I’d ever been with
but I had to leave her
the homebody and the butterfly
just could never work out

I wonder if I’ll see her in the afterlife
and if homebodies and social butterflies
will be there

I don’t pine for a redo with her
to see if we could be
happily together in the afterlife

but I do hope she is okay and in
a beautiful place there forever.
