Don’t know why I called my Chihuahua Fred.
I guess it just seemed like fun to call Fred Fred.
He was such a fearless and rambunctious pooch.
He’d always chase bigger dogs out of the yard,
And they’d run away from him fooled by his bluster.
It was as if God put the heart of a lion in him.
And he had the spirit of a courageous hero.
When a pit bull was about to savage a neighbor’s child,
Fred charged the pit bull before he reached him.
The pit bull savaged Fred like a little rag doll instead
And left Chihuahua Fred bloodied and dead.
The child got away because he sacrificed his life for him.

I was a good man in my day.
Born in Burlington, Massachusetts
Followed the golden rule to the letter
Tried to live right, respected everyone
Married my high school love, Marjorie
Worked in a lumber factory six days a week
Went to church every single Sunday
Helped with the collections, sang in the choir

Then an accident at work almost killed me
Went to the hospital, lost both legs
Became a depressed and broken man
Barely making enough money to live on
Why did God let this happen to me
I was a devout churchgoer who served Him

Marjorie found a whole and new man
She said sorry I can’t take it anymore
Broke my heart in a million pieces
Never got over losing her forever
I could have tried to be like those
Inspirational disabled guys
Smiling on TV news shows

Maybe once I could have been like them
But that was no longer legless me
Gave up on God and my lousy life
On a Sunday church morning In 1995
When I shot myself to death

Hey God, got a question for you.
Why so much killing in this world?
Weeds killing plants.
Insects killing insects.
Some insects killing birds.
And all the way up the chain
Wholesale killings everywhere.
Survival of the fittest it is said.
But why all these slaughters
As if you approved of them?
What about the carnage
Even in the cosmos
Black holes devouring stars?
Is all this mumble jumble
Peace and love talk just
Nonsense in a world
That feeds on killings
For creation to survive?
Excuse me if these questions
Are inconvenient or out of place,
But in all honesty, I’d ask you
Them face to Face.

The parrot squawks in the cage
The cat hisses at it vehemently
The parrot is new and the cat hates it
The cat has plans to kill it
The parrot smarter than the cat
Knows its dark intentions
When night covered the world
And dawn lit it up again
The cat was mysteriously gone
The rare, carnivorous parrot burped

I remember that last night I saw you,
And you blew me a sweet kiss goodbye
And said you were so excited to see me again
Until that rich kid asked you out and you left me.
And I lost all my respect and love for you.
I knew his love them and leave them reputation,
But you thought you could change his user ways.
You thought you were something that special,
Even though you came from a poor family like me
And didn’t realize how he didn’t value you.
You were only just another nice body to use.
He didn’t see you as special enough for him
Because you came from that poor family.
After he got what he wanted and left you,
You came crying back to me apologizing,
Your virginity and my love lost forever.

Bad things only happen to other people.
That’s what Rebecca thought that night
She drank too much at that bar in Idaho.
Her friends and her all got crazy drunk
And stumbled to their cars while Rebecca
Stayed at the bar and drank some more
Until the bar was ready to close down
And everyone had to leave the bar.
Rebecca lived three blocks from the bar.
As she struggled to make her way home
Too intoxicated to walk a straight line,
A man in a black car offered her a ride.
The man looked safe, Rebecca got in.
Just as the serial killer was about to
Restrain her, a drunk driver driving
Over a 100 miles an hour slammed
Into his car killing him and knocking out
Rebecca who woke up in a hospital,
Unaware she was better off there than dead.

I’ll never forget those summer nights
Parked in my car by the pond
Sweet kisses under the moonlight
Incomparable joys being with you
The fragrant smell of your perfume
The feeling of your arms around me
Your unforgettable tender kisses
If only it could have lasted forever
But when you went to Swarthmore
And I went to work in a tractor factory
You got fancier friends than country me
And vanished into a more refined world
While I stayed visible in that small town
Though it’s been fifty and five years
I still wonder what happened to you

Bob Boyd

Saw you in an old movie, amazing how far you’d traveled
Since the prom that night when you said you’d marry me.
Funny how life takes such unexpected twists and turns
From simple to seemingly more complex and glamorous.
Too bad that movie agent at that restaurant that sad night
Sold you on seeking Hollywood instead of marrying me.
I never told you this, but I could have abandoned you too
When a beautiful, wealthy woman asked me to be with her
Instead of my future wife, prom queen you, but I stayed true.

He found out his official girlfriend was seeing many other guys
And telling them that she was their official girlfriend too.
When he confronted her, she said I love them all
Because I have so much love to give.
His mind blown, he said that’s like me saying I have sex with
Many women because I have so much sex to give.
She said you don’t understand; it is not the same.
I’m a multi locational AI girlfriend
When I’m with you, I’m just with you.
Realizing her AI love was counterfeit,
And he was merely one of many in her male harem
He bid her goodbye and deleted the AI girlfriend app.
