There are those who claim when we dream
we are actually astral traveling
I just do not believe we do
but I could easily be wrong about this

to my knowledge, I’ve never astral traveled
my dreams are usually too incongrous
or about things that happened during the day
and I have no bearings about being in other planes

I’ve never had even a hint of leaving my body
and traveling through exotic astral planes in sleep
but, of course, my dream mind could be too dense
to perceive any nightly astral field trips.

I was lying down in a dream last night
and felt a woman lying beside me
whose face I could not see
lying nearly cheek to cheek with me
I took a chance and kissed her
gently on her cheek
hoping it wouldn’t be too forward
despite us lying nearly
cheek to cheek
the kiss must have been okay
she didn’t react angry or shocked
pity I woke up after the kiss
and didn’t get a kiss from her.

There may be creatures from other dimensions
intersecting with our world routinely

creatures that can appear and disappear
into our world and back into their world

maybe some are translucent and predatory
like the predator in the movie Predator

maybe creatures like that account for the 411s
the many people who go missing untraceable
by trackers or dogs and without any tracks

maybe some of the famous ones like Bigfoot
are benign and more intelligent than thought

and these illusive and mysterious creatures
may be as real as you and I are
except that they may be interdimensional

which could account for why despite thousands
of alleged sightings no definitive proof of them exists.

I don’t care about trying to publish
any of my poems in a magazine
I just post them here on my blog for myself
like a daily mental workout for my mind

I’ve no interest in a lot of attention
if thousands or even hundreds came here daily
I’d get a little uncomfortable

besides even if poets become the
greatest poets of their day
when enough time goes by
decades, hundreds, thousands of years or more
they are forgotten, as if they never wrote poems

I don’t care about any fleeting legacy
for any of the poems I write
and even if I had started writing poetry
at 16 instead of 76 and became well known
I’d probably be known for a poem or two
and forgotten not long after I died

and from what I’ve seen, even famous poets
are often known only for a few of their hundreds
or thousands of poems they write
so I’m happily obscure and unknown.

Once I was married to a woman who said
use your fucking head to me
of course, I erupted at that and
said something back to her
like you don’t talk to me like that
or maybe I traded an expletive with her
but I don’t think so
and it was too long ago to remember
my exact enraged words
but I do rememberr, and what
she didn’t know was
the day she talked to me like that
the death bells began to knell
and though she didn’t know it
I was done with her on that day
in my heart I had left her
because I don’t suffer disrespect
nor would I talk to a woman like that
especially one I was supposed to love.

I like witches
white witches
witches who do no harm
who learn about herbs
who learn about spells
I like how they are
so invested in the natural world
I like how they often have
a unique fashion sense
I like how they’re not afraid
of being a little different
of having a different world view
I wonder if that describes you.

Lovely as a flower in a field
her beauty incomparable
her voice more melodious
than any musical instrument
a disposition as sweet as
the disposition of an angel
but, alas, for him because
she was his sister
he spent his life trying to find
a woman as perfect as her
hoping she be his wife
but never found a woman
that was his sister’s equal.

When he held her the last time
he felt like he was hugging a skeleton
even though she was full bodied
and exceptionally healthy
he didn’t know at that time
the skeleton hug was a premonition
he didn’t know she’d be dead the next day
of a sudden, unexpected heart attack.

The night felt eerie
the moon was full
his girlfriend said

she was going to
pay him a visit

he knew that meant
she wouldn’t be
her usual sweet self

he knew that hell
was coming

instead of knocking
she howled at the
front door

instead of a woman
she’d become
a werewolf

as she did every
full moon night

he howled back
a werewolf as well
though reluctantly

he enjoyed the kills
but upon waking
he felt regrets

when his girlfriend
entered his home

he shot her dead
with a silver bullet

then he shot himself
to death as well.

I read about a woman in the Philippines
who bought a Shrek statue at a shop there
she thought it was a statue of the Buddha

the body was the same as the bodies of Buddha
in real Buddha statues everywhere
the face was clearly that of Shrek

she worshiped the statue for four years
burning incense before it daily

some people might have found that funny
some people might have thought she was stupid

I wholeheartedly believe the Absolute
honored her devotion
I believe that though she was mistaken
the Absolute doesn’t care
in Its eyes her sincere and persistent devotion
outweighed her mistaking Shrek for the Buddha

despite learning of her error, she is going to keep
worshiping the stature as the Buddha
and burning incense before it daily

this says to me, it’s working for her
and I’m almost feeling like buying one of those
Buddha-like statues in support of her

I have seen they’re plentiful for sale online
and from the neck down, they are Buddha.
